Press Release

Voltz Clarke Gallery is pleased to present New Beginnings, a two-person exhibition introducing new works by Rachel Morrissey and Daniel Adenitan

While Rachel Morrissey’s work is absent of figures, her limb-like, nature inspired, abstractions almost resemble the human form; Daniel Adenitan’s paintings focus on the body as a subject matter, while his playful patterns and subtract shapes take on a life of their own. Both series speak of human presence – one with the figure, and one without. Both Morrissey and Adenitan have a powerful use of energy, precision, color, which in turn create a wonderful tempo side by side.

Born in the late 80s in Dorchester, Massachusetts, Rachel Morrissey grew up in Connecticut and received her MFA in 2016 from Massachusetts College of Art and Design. She earned a Post-Baccalaureate degree from The School of the Museum of Fine Arts in 2014 and a BFA in Studio Art from Indiana University in 2009. Morrissey is a mother of two young children and currently lives and works in Medfield, Massachusetts. Morrissey hopes to seduce the viewer into this seemingly colorful, jubilant world, leading them to understand that all is not what it is seen above the surface. The motifs and patterns oscillate along the continuum of her experience as a mother finding exuberance, love and joy at one end and utter despair at the other. Morrissey’s work continues to ‘bear fruit’ as she chronicles and interprets the usual and unusual curveballs of life and motherhood through art and imagery.

Daniel Adenitan is a painter based in Lagos, Nigeria. He has been an art enthusiast all his life but recognized professionally in 2019 after graduating from The University of Lagos with a B.A in creative arts. The medium Adenitan uses are Oil and Acrylic paints. His signature style is achieved using black figures, gold coating, vibrant colors and patterns to create complex compositions. Adenitan’s works are influenced by events happening around him and personal experiences. He loves to create with music and a surplus of natural light. A principal theme in his work is the depiction of black (color) originality and fashion style s to emphasize a feel of context for each.
